Burna Boy, Grammy Award winner from Nigeria, continues to defy history. This time, as the first African artist to reach 200 million streams
on Boomplay, Africa’s leading music streaming platform.
Boomplay made the official announcement on Monday, February 14th, via its official social media channels.
On Instagram, the streaming platform wrote: “Odogwu you bad, e file fun Burna Boy as he poses with the first-ever duo-golden club plaque for hitting 200,000,000 streams on Boomplay!”
Since the release of the Outside album, which currently has 10 million streams, the Grammy Award winner’s popularity has skyrocketed.
African Giant, his critically acclaimed and Grammy-nominated follow – up album, now has over 43 million streams, four times more than his previous body of work, indicating his expanding fanbase and growth.
Twice As Tall, his 2020 album, has been streamed twice as much as African Giant, with over 80 million streams on Boomplay.
Tosin Sorinola, Boomplay’s Director of Artist and Media Relations, stated:

“This is another iconic feat for Burna Boy, Boomplay, and the entire African music industry.

“This achievement shows that fans in Africa are fast catching up to the digitization of music and streaming, which Boomplay is championing.

“With this development, artistes can earn even more on our platform. Burna Boy is a massively talented singer whose works will continue to affect people positively across Africa and the rest of the world.

“We are proud of what he is doing and his milestone achievements on Boomplay; to this effect, we, at Boomplay, present this plaque to him in special recognition of his contributions so far in the industry and are looking forward to more extraordinary achievements.”
