Apple Music Reveals King Paluta As The Latest Up Next Artist In Ghana
Apple Music has announced rapper King Paluta (real name Thomas Adjei Wireko) as the latest musician to be featured in its Up Next artist development program in Ghana.
“I stayed underground for 15 years and never gave up on myself,” he tells Apple Music. “It feels so good to be here and hearing the fans chant ‘Asuo (water/rain/ reign)’ which is my street signature means so much to me and the journey. I am forever grateful.”
Born and raised in Atonsu Bokuro, a suburb of Kumasi in Ghana, King Paluta was raised by his single mother who was his rock, and source of sound advice, throughout the pursuit of his musical dream.
After deciding that music was his calling when he was 14 years old, King Paluta began cleaning and sleeping in recording studios. A self-confessed “studio rat”, it was during this time that he learned how to programme and produce music, a skill that proved useful as he still produces all of his songs.
King Paluta then sharpened his flow by participating in street rap battles for four years, earning him a respected reputation as he knocked out opponent after opponent with his strong lyrical punches. After attracting the attention of NKZ Music boss, Nana Yaw Maradona (Guru), King Paluta signed to the lauded label but later decided to reclaim his independence once his contract lapsed.
But it was the release of his smash hit single “Yahitte” (2022) that changed the trajectory of his career, racking up over 3 million streams to date and resulting in two remixes, with “Yahitte Remix” (2023) soaring to over 6 million streams. With the Highlife tour de force single “Sika Aba Fire” (2022) alongside his signature-flow affirming single “Aha Akye (feat. Samini)” (2023), King Paluta has consistently churned out hit after hit whilst relishing his hard-earned success.
His latest single “Aseda” (2024), available to stream on Apple Music, is a slower, more melodic offering from the rapper who’s equally as comfortable singing as he is showcasing his multifaceted nature.
As the latest Up Next act to be spotlighted in Ghana, King Paluta will be featured across Apple Music’s East Africa Up Next playlist available here. The curated Up Next playlist features a dynamic class of new and emerging artists, thoughtfully hand-picked by Apple Music editors from around the world.
The playlist is genre agnostic and represents a line-up of artists our global editors are passionate about and eager to expose to a larger audience.

“You Go Explain Taya” – Dj Azonto Blasts Serwaa Amihere
Amapiano sensation DJ Azonto has taken a ferocious swipe at broadcaster Serwaa Amihere tagging her poor in mind following her alleged bedroom videos.
This comes in the wake of an alleged bedroom video of Serwaa Amihere and Henry Fitz that has subsequently set social media ablaze with netizens sharing their thoughts on the issue.
DJ Azonto, who recently released his new single, “You Go Explain Taya,” has shared his opinion about the viral video, saying that Serwaa Amihere could be suffering from bipolar adding that a “normal” person wouldn’t do that.
According to the “Fa No Fom” hitmaker, he was not surprised by the recent leaks and believes some of the media personalities live a fake lifestyle, thereby leading upcoming youth into all forms of deviant behaviours.
“Serwaa shouldn’t explain herself, or ‘she go explain taya’ It is very sad to see these kinds of videos surface online, and if what I am hearing is true, then she may have my sickness, which is bipolar.
“We do things and regret them later, and for me, having bipolar automatically makes you poor in mind, hence making the wrong decision.,” DJ Azonto said in an interview.
When asked about his new song “You Go Explain Taya,” DJ Azonto said he released the song to tackle some issues going on in entertainment circles.
The new song addresses issues concerning record label AMG Business, taking a swipe at Sarkodie, Tracy Boakye, Showboy, Medikal, and Criss Waddle. The new “U Go Explain Taya” single, produced by Abochi, is accompanied by a well-curated music video that has already gone viral on social media.

Bobrisky Sentenced To Six Months In Jail
Nigerian cross-dresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has been sentenced to six months in jail with no option of a fine.
Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court in Lagos gave the judgment on Friday morning, April 12.
The judge brought down the hammer after Bobrisky had pleaded guilty to a four-count charge of Naira abuse brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
Justice Awogboro held that the judgement would serve as a deterrence to others fond of abusing and mutilating the Nigerian currency.
Trouble started for Bobrisky after he sprayed money at the premiere of Ajakaju, a keenly awaited film by actress and producer Eniola Ajao, at Film One Circle Mall, in the upmarket Lagos district of Lekki last month.
This is not the first time a Nigerian celebrity will be jailed for Naira abuse.
In February, actress Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin was also sentenced to six months in prison for spraying and stepping on new naira notes.
