“I’m Tired of the Hypocrisy” – Joseph Matthew Fires Back At Critics Over Romantic Hit “Love in You”
UK-based Ghanaian gospel powerhouse Joseph Matthew has once again ignited passionate debate across the Christian music scene with his March release “Love in You”.
In the song, Joseph pours out heart-melting vows of loyalty and sacrifice to his beloved, promising to fight every storm and prove his love “till the end of time.” For many fans, it’s a beautiful celebration of covenant love. For others, it crosses the invisible line of what Joseph Matthew stands for. But Joseph Matthew is not backing down.
In an explosive exclusive interview, Joseph Matthew laid it all bare:
“I’m tired of people thinking there’s a manual for gospel artistes to follow. This holier-than-thou attitude is breeding hypocrisy in the industry. We crucify Empress Gifty for being herself and call her controversial. We did the same to me.
In Ghana, if you don’t fit the old mould khaki suit, tie, and organ-backed chorus, you’re automatically ‘worldly.’ How does being authentic and versatile make me controversial? I don’t need controversy to survive. I just need to be me.”
This is far from Joseph Matthew’s first clash with tradition. When he burst onto the scene in 2021 with his signature Afro-Gospel sound which blends high-energy Afrobeats rhythms with unapologetic praise – many Ghanaian gatekeepers dismissed him as “too secular.”
Yet today, that same style has birthed a new generation of artistes: Evans Scott, Kneeded, Kingzkid, and others now dominate playlists and concerts, proving Joseph was simply ahead of the curve.
Beyond defending Love in You, Joseph Matthew is challenging the entire Ghanaian gospel industry to wake up:
“We’re too restrictive. Try something fresh and they slap a label on you. How are we supposed to reach the world if we stay trapped in our church bubbles, afraid to even greet a non-believer?
It’s frowned upon for gospel artistes to collaborate with secular acts. Tell me, how did Jesus reach Zacchaeus, the woman at the well, or Matthew the tax collector? He went where they were!”
With global hits like “Halleluyah”, “Nyame Ye”, “My Story”, and “Blessed”, Joseph has consistently proven that music can be both deeply spiritual and culturally relevant, comforting the broken, inspiring the faithful, and reaching souls beyond the four walls of the church.
For Joseph Matthew, “Love in You” isn’t just a song, it’s a statement. It’s a declaration that love whether directed toward God or expressed through the covenant of marriage is holy, powerful, and worth singing about without apology.
As the debate rages on, one thing is clear: Joseph Matthew is not here to conform. He’s here to transform and if history is anything to go by, the Ghanaian gospel industry will eventually catch up just like it did with Afro-Gospel.

Captan Reaffirms Shatta Movement Roots and Takes Flight with “Lion Awake” Anthem
In the ever-evolving world of Ghanaian music, rumors and speculation often swirl around the industry’s biggest names. Recently, Captan, a prominent figure in the Shatta Movement franchise, found himself at the center of such rumors, with some claiming he had parted ways with the label on a very bad note.
These speculations gained traction following the departure of his fellow artist, Ara B, amid whispers of disagreements with the label’s enigmatic leader, Shatta Wale. However, Captan has stepped forward to set the record straight, reaffirming his loyalty to the Shatta Movement and sharing exciting updates about his career, including the release of his electrifying new single, “Lion Awake.”
In a candid interview, Captan firmly debunked rumors of his exit from the Shatta Movement, emphasizing his unwavering connection to the label that has shaped his career. “I’m still very much a part of the Shatta Movement,” Captan declared, dispelling the notion that he had followed in Ara B’s footsteps.
Captan made it clear that his relationship with the dancehall king remains strong. He described Shatta Wale as not just a mentor but a guiding force who has imparted invaluable knowledge about the music industry. “Shatta has taught me everything I know—how to navigate this business, how to create, and how to stay true to my craft,” Captan shared, crediting the Shatta Movement boss for his growth as an artist.
To further cement his allegiance, Captan revealed that Shatta Wale personally reviewed and approved his latest single, “Lion Awake,” before its release. This collaborative dynamic underscores the mutual respect and creative synergy between the two artists, proving that Captan remains a core part of the Shatta Movement family.
While staying loyal to the Shatta Movement, Captan has taken steps to expand his professional horizons. He disclosed that he now works with his own personal management team, which handles the business side of his music career.
This move allows him to explore new opportunities while still benefiting from Shatta Wale’s mentorship. “Having my own management gives me the freedom to grow as an artist, but I’m still rooted in the Shatta Movement,” Captan explained. This strategic balance highlights his ambition to carve out his own path while maintaining the foundation that propelled him to prominence.
Captan also addressed the dissolution of The Militants, the once-iconic group within the Shatta Movement that included himself, Ara B, Natty Lee, Addi Self, and Joint 77. The group, known for hits like “Thunder Fire” and “Taking Over,” was a powerhouse in the Ghanaian music scene during the late 2010s.
However, Captan revealed that the group’s demise stemmed from internal challenges, particularly some members’ failure to heed Shatta Wale’s guidance. “The Militants are no more because some people didn’t listen to Shatta’s advice,” he stated, reflecting on the group’s unraveling. Despite the disbandment, Captan expressed nostalgia for the camaraderie they once shared, hinting at past discussions with Shatta Wale about a potential reunion, though no concrete plans have materialized.
Captan is not letting rumors or past challenges dim his shine. His latest single, “Lion Awake,” is taking the music world by storm, resonating with fans across streaming platforms, social media, and airwaves. The track is a bold declaration of his resilience and artistic evolution, blending infectious dancehall rhythms with powerful lyrics that reflect his journey. Produced with precision and infused with Captan’s signature energy, “Lion Awake” is quickly becoming a fan favorite, earning praise for its authenticity and vibe. The song’s success is a testament to Captan’s growth as an artist and his ability to captivate audiences while staying true to the Shatta Movement’s dancehall roots.
