Amber Heard Settles Defamation Case With Johnny Depp

Amber Heard and Johnny Depp have avoided yet another court appearance after settling their latest round of litigation.
Depp originally filed a defamation claim against Heard in March 2019 after Heard published an op-ed in the Washington Post in which she described herself as a “public figure representing domestic abuse.”
The couple had been married for two years before divorcing in 2017.
In a statement announcing the decision, Heard made clear that “There are no restrictions or gags with respect to my voice moving forward” and blasted the U.S. legal system for turning her testimony into “entertainment and social media fodder.”
She also compared her experience of the U.S. legal system to the U.K., where Depp sued the British tabloid The Sun in 2020 for calling him a “wife beater” in an article. Heard was a chief witness for The Sun. In that case, the judge called the allegations “substantially true” and found in favour of The Sun.
Read Heard’s full statement below:
“After a great deal of deliberation, I have made a very difficult decision to settle the defamation case brought against me by my ex-husband in Virginia.
It’s important for me to say that I never chose this. I defended my truth and in doing so my life as I knew it was destroyed. The vilification I have faced on social media is an amplified version of the ways in which women are re-victimized when they come forward. Now I finally have an opportunity to emancipate myself from something I attempted to leave over six years ago and on terms I can agree to. I have made no admission, this is not an act of concession. There are no restrictions or gags with respect to my voice moving forward.
I make this decision have lost faith in the American legal system, where my unprotected testimony served as entertainment and social media fodder.
When I took before a judge in the U.K., I was vindicated by a robust, impartial and fair system, where I was protected from having to give the worst moments of my testimony in front of the worlds media, and where the court found that I was subjected to domestic and sexual violence. In the U.S., however, I exhausted almost all my resources in advance of and during a trial in which I was subject to a courtroom in which abundant, direct evidence that corroborated my testimony was excluded and in which popularity and power mattered more than reason and due process. In the interim I was exposed to a type of humiliation that I simply cannot re-live. Even if my U.S. appeal is successful, the best outcome would be a re-trial where a new jury would have to consider the evidence age. I simply cannot go through that for a third time.
Time is precious, and I want to spend my time productively and purposefully. For too many years I have been caged in an arduous and expensive legal process, which has shown itself unable to protect me and my right to free speech. I cannot afford to risk an impossible bill – one that is not just financial but also psychological, physical and emotional. Women shouldn’t have to face abuse or bankruptcy for speaking her truth, but unfortunately it is not uncommon.
In settling this case I’m also choosing the freedom to dedicate my time to the work that helped me heal after my divorce; work that exists in realms in which I feel seen, heard and believed and in which I know I can effect change.
I will not be threatened, disheartened, or dissuaded by what happened from speaking the truth. No one can and no one will take that from me. My voice forever remains the most valuable asset I have.
I’d like to thank my outstanding appellate and original trial teams for their relentless hard work. I want to thank everyone who has supported me and I turn my attention to the growing support that I felt and seen publicly in the months since trial, and the efforts have been made to show solidarity with my story. Any survivor knows that the ability to tell their story often feels like the only relief. I cannot find enough words to tell you the hope your belief in me inspires. Not just for me, but for all of you.
Thank you. See you soon.”

HKR Manuel Drops Juls Inspired Single “Palmwine”

Rising Ghanaian singer HKR Manuel today unveils his captivating new single, “Palmwine.” This
soulful Afro-Fusion track draws inspiration from the intoxicating feeling of deep obsession or
love, where the lines of reality beautifully blur.
It captures that sweet, heady rush where love
feels like a powerful, delightful drug, and you willingly lose yourself in the experience.
“Palmwine” holds a unique origin story. In December 2023, HKR Manuel entered a beat contest
judged by industry stalwarts Appietus, Altra Nova, and Juls. While some judges appreciated his
beat despite its raw mix, Juls was unequivocally unenthusiastic, leading to HKR Manuel’s
elimination. “At the time, I was crushed,” HKR Manuel admits, “But looking back, that moment lit
something in me.”
A couple of years later, during a lighthearted conversation with his friend Khxnbeats, the
memory resurfaced. HKR Manuel playfully declared, “Watch me make a beat better than Juls
ever has and call it Palmwine.” The name itself is a playful nod to Juls’s well-known “Palmwine
Diaries” project. Leaning into the same highlife-inspired fusion that Juls has mastered, HKR
Manuel crafted the beat and recorded the vocals, realizing he had created something deeply
personal and resonant.
“Funny enough, I’m genuinely thankful to Juls now,” he shares. “That moment pushed me.
Without it, this record wouldn’t exist.” HKR Manuel is an up-and-coming artist from Ghana,
known for blending Afrobeats, Hip-Hop, and Alternative sounds to forge a unique sonic identity.
With a deep passion for storytelling through music, he delivers raw, emotive performances that
connect profoundly with his audience. His artistry is driven by authenticity, innovation, and a
relentless desire to push the boundaries of contemporary African music.
“Palmwine” is more than just a song; it’s a testament to artistic resilience and the transformative
power of a challenge.

Porsha Williams’ Ex Simon Guobadia Released From ICE Detention, Deported Back To Nigeria

Porsha Williams’ estranged husband, Simon Guobadia, has been released from ICE custody and deported back to his home country, Nigeria, after spending months at a detention centre, according to Us Weekly.
According to the website, Guobadia’s friend and business partner, Tai Savet, reports that the Nigeria-born businessman was sent on a flight back home a couple of days ago.
The U.S. Department of Homeland Security website no longer lists Guobadia as being in their system.
Savet said Guobadia, 61, was in “good spirits” after a tough experience at the detention centre, which was the first time he had ever been behind bars.
Back in February, Williams’ ex was taken to the Stewart Detention Center in Lumpkin, Georgia, about two hours outside of Atlanta, as part of the government’s mass deportation efforts.
Guobadia moved to the United States in 1982 but reportedly overstayed his visa. He left the country but came back and overstayed his visa a second time, according to a local report.
WSB-TV reported Guobadia was deported in 1992 but was granted permanent residency status the same year when he used an “undisclosed identity.”
He attempted to gain citizenship over the years but was shut down each time.
Williams, 43, filed for divorce from Guobadia in February 2024, following 15 months of marriage.
The exes went back and forth for months over Williams’ request for exclusive use of their marital home.
The judge sided with Williams and ordered that she could live in the home until a final decision is reached in the divorce.
The exes are set to face off at a divorce hearing later this week, with Guobadia being allowed to appear via video due to his deportation.
The reality star and her ex are fighting over the prenuptial agreement they signed before they walked down the aisle on November 25, 2022.
The hearing has been postponed several times, partly due to Guobadia’s detention.
After he was taken into custody, Guobadia asked for the hearing to be postponed to allow him time to attend.
His lawyer argued, “The motion to enforce the prenuptial agreement is a substantive motion that requires findings of fact by this court. The outcome of the motion will also have a substantial effect on how the remainder of the divorce case proceeds, as it may be dispositive of some of the issues and result in litigation on others.”
The judge granted Guobadia’s motion and rescheduled the hearing for June 11.
The order instructed ICE agents to transport Guobadia to the hearing if he was not released.
For her part, Williams filed a motion requesting permission to attend the hearing via video.
The RHOA star’s lawyer told the court, “[Williams] is a well-known reality television personality, a career in which last-minute travel and unexpected opportunities frequently arise.”
He continued, “[Williams] shows that this employment opportunity would help [Williams] offset the numerous financial obligations that [Guobadia] has failed to maintain under the Temporary Order, as well as to offset the significant legal expenses [Williams] has already incurred in pursuing enforcement of the parties’ Prenuptial Agreement and defending herself against [Guobadia] as it relates to the instant divorce action.”
“[Williams] shows that her request for virtual appearance is made in good faith and reflects a balancing of her professional obligations and the serious nature of these proceedings, not a desire to delay or further complicate the instant litigation,” the reality star’s attorney argued.
The judge has yet to rule.
