Kirani Ayat Calls Out The President For Using His Creative Property Without His Permission

Kirani Ayat, a Ghanaian musician, has chastised the Presidency for using parts of his music video in an advertisement without his permission.

On Tuesday, September 27, H.E. Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo, President of Ghana, shared a video to promote tourism in Ghana in honor of World Tourism Day 2022.

Some portions of Kirani Ayat’s music video for his hit song “Guda” can be seen in the video, which captures beautiful

scenes of the country with a VoiceOver by the President.

“Beneath the deep blue sky, the Black Star is calling. Follow the stars and let them take you on a journey of our people. I invite everyone to the country at the centre of the world – #Ghana . #VisitGhana2022,” the caption of the video reads.

The video, which was shared on Twitter, piqued Kirani Ayat’s interest, and he has since chastised the Presidency for using his

music without his permission.

According to Kirani Ayat, the President used a portion of his “Guda” video in the advertisement, despite the fact that in the 2018/2019

fiscal year, he received no response after contacting the Ministry of Tourism to request permission to use the video

to promote tourism in the north.

“In this ad, the president of Ghana has used my video “GUDA” to promote Ghana.” I actively reached out to the Ministry of

Tourism in 2018/19 to use this video to promote tourism in the North and received NO response, yet it’s in an ad today.

The singer, who is entitled to royalties for his music and intellectual property, chastised the video’s creator, claiming that
he/she should have reached out and done due diligence before using his creative property.

“Whoever worked on this video should have contacted the proper content owners first.” gave my all to make GUDA reality;
I’m sure you were compensated for your efforts; where is my cut?” He continued.

Meanwhile, Kirani Ayat’s debut album, Aisha’s Sun,’ is now available.
Sarkodie, Worlasi, and others appear on the 29-minute project.
Aisha’s Sun” is available on all music streaming platforms.
