M.Anifest Pays Nostalgic Homage To ‘Hip Hop At 50’ In New Freestyle

Ghanaian Hip Hop artist M.anifest takes us on a nostalgic journey with a new freestyle, titled “50 YEARS.”

Referencing Hip Hop icons like 2pac, Nas, The Notorious B.I.G, The Fugees, LL Cool J and the Wu-Tang Clan to name a few, M.anifest cleverly weaves this ode to a genre that he himself has come to contribute significantly to. A certified wordsmith, his skill allows him to craft a worthy tribute to Hip Hop’s enduring legacy as it celebrates 50 years.

From the genre’s origins on Sedgwick Avenue to the influence it’s had in many parts of the world, spurring genres like Hip Life (Ghana), there’s no patch of Hip Hop uncovered by the rapper affectionately called ‘the god MC’ by his fans, particularly when viewed through the lens of his lived experience.

Whether tipping his hat to Obrafour’s classic album “Pae Mu Ka”, or legendary Hip Hop albums like Kanye West’s “College Dropout” and Jay-Z’s “The Blueprint”, he poignantly comments on a culture that has left an indelible mark on marginalized beginnings.

The current torchbearers are of course not left out of the MikeMillzOn’Em-produced track. J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, A-Reece, Black Sherif, and Sampa The Great get honourable mentions as boundary pushers of the genre, emphatically suggesting that Hip Hop remains a vibrant and relevant force in contemporary music and perhaps in safe hands.

M.anifest’s commemoration of the 50th anniversary has gone beyond his music. This year, he has actively engaged in discussions in academia, with an appearance at Howard University as a special guest, where he shared his insights on Hip Hop’s evolution from an African perspective over the past five decades. In July 2023, he was in New York at Global Cognac giant Hennessy’s invitation, joining a roster of world-renowned rappers to celebrate one of Hip Hop’s greats, Nas.

Gospel Artiste, Joseph And The Kohanim Releases Much Anticipated, “In Your Presence” Album

Following on from the success of his 2020 single ‘I Have A Dream,’ Joseph and the Kohanim is back three years later with his remarkable debut album entitled ”In Your Presence”,  an album that began as an intimate journey within the heart and mind of Joseph himself.

He describes crafting each song as a ‘voyage,’ whereby melodies and choruses reverberated through Joseph’s thoughts before finding their final versions. ”In Your Presence” spans international borders with Nigerian and South African artists joining forces on tracks like “Beautiful, Wonderful” and “Dance Like David,” where Fega Micheal’s spirited rap in Nigerian-Pidgin English added a certain dynamic flair.

Additionally, featured artist Tee Mogano, who was once a backing vocal for Israel Houghton, lent his powerful lead vocals to “I’ll Be There,” bringing his South African timbres into the richs soundscapes on the same track, and on ‘Woke,’ Joseph was backed by an international chorus with united efforts from the UK – Joseph and his church members braving cold venues to harmonize for that true choir sound.

Across the Atlantic, Sharonda Griffin’s ethereal backing vocals came from Detroit, Michigan, to add an extra, transcendent layer. Joseph drew on his divine and faithful inspiration for tracks “Walking On Water” and “Lord I Need You”, which emerged in the weeks leading to the album’s release, fueled by a relentless desire to share his positive message.

With mixing and mastering in both Ghana and Detroit, ”In Your Presence” beckons listeners to embark on a transcendent journey, guided by the passionate and heartfelt expressions of Joseph and the Kohanim – a global testament to the power of Gospel music.

Joseph and the Kohanim is a multifaceted musician, songwriter and creative force who has been enthralled by music since his childhood. It was back in the early 90s that he first started
making music, inspired by the dulcet tones of artists such as the Clark Sisters, John P Kee, Fela Kuti, Gyedu Blay Ambolley and Earth Wind and Fire. His musical career was put on hold when he embarked on his spiritual journey as a missionary, travelling the globe
and spreading the positive messages of the Gospel. In 2017, Joseph finally found the time and opportunity to restart his musical career and, utilizing his decades of inspiration and dedication, released his debut single entitled ‘I Have A Dream’ in 2020. As Joseph and the Kohanim continues to craft his musical legacy with 2023 album ‘In Your Presence,’ his dedicated following are eagerly anticipating what this artiste has planned next.

Roo Dube Talks Corruption, Economic Mismanagement And More In New Single ‘Mr President’

Ghanaian reggae-dancehall artist, Roo Dube releases another ‘hot’ single titled ‘Mr. President the musician did not mince words in speaking truth to power to politicians in not just Ghana but all politicians on the African continent.
The ‘lockdown’ hitmaker in his new song speaks against nepotism, stealing, and looting which he laments has become the lifestyle of politicians on the continent. The song tells Presidents of African countries to sit up and prioritise the welfare of their people and the development of their countries for the good of the continent.
“The whole idea about the new song came because of how politicians are treating ordinary citizens, We vote in Africa for our welfare but it seems the politicians are not doing this for us. They come with so many promises but once in power, everything changes. Now we have uprisings in the West African Region.
“I think it’s time we send this message across Africa. Leadership should see citizens as their family and do the right things.
The reggae-dancehall artist is of the view that the cash stashed in the home of former Minister of Sanitation, Madam Cecilia Abena Dapaah which was stolen by her house is an indication that Africa is not poor but suffering because of poor leadership.
Through his new song, Roo Dube says he wants to inspire Africans to speak up to their leaders to stop corruption and bad governance.
