Rebbel Ashes Speaks Out: “Six Dreams Crushed — Who Takes Responsibility?”
Ghanaian artist calls for accountability and reform following tragic El-Wak Stadium incident.
Belgium-based Ghanaian artist Rebbel Ashes has expressed deep sorrow and outrage over the recent tragedy at El-Wak Sports Stadium, where six young Ghanaian women tragically lost their lives during a chaotic recruitment exercise.
In a statement shared with the media, Rebbel Ashes described the incident as “a man-made disaster caused by failure in leadership, poor planning, and neglect.”
“These young women didn’t go to war,” he said. “They only went to serve their country, to wear the uniform, to defend the flag, and to be part of something bigger than themselves. But because of someone’s negligence, that dream turned into a death sentence.”
The artist lamented the lack of proper organization and safety measures during the recruitment process, emphasizing that such negligence is unacceptable in a nation that values human life.
“Thousands were packed into the stadium without proper crowd control, safety protocols, or medical readiness,” he added. “Six lives are gone, families are shattered, and a nation is left in mourning. This was not fate — it was failure.”
Rebbel Ashes urged the authorities to take full responsibility rather than rely on the usual expressions of sympathy or committee setups.
“When lives are lost under your watch due to negligence, you don’t just apologize — you resign, or you’re removed,” he stated. “Leadership must not only lead but take responsibility when it fails. We cannot keep normalizing irresponsibility.”
The “Obolobo” hitmaker further called for transparency and justice, demanding a thorough investigation, public release of findings, and meaningful consequences for those who failed in their duties.
“We need to see real accountability,” Rebbel stressed. “Compensation for the families is important, but more than that, we must make sure this never happens again. If no one is held accountable, then we have learned nothing — and the system will keep failing the very people who trust it most.”
He concluded his statement with a powerful reminder:
“Six dreams were crushed before they began. Six futures stolen. Six families broken. This tragedy should mark a turning point. Enough is enough.”
Rebbel Ashes is a Ghanaian-born Afrobeat and Afro-fusion artist based in Belgium, known for blending African rhythms with contemporary sounds. Through his music and voice, he continues to advocate for positive change, unity, and accountability both in Ghana and across the diaspora.
