Rocky Dawuni Drops Official Video For New Single “Neva Bow Down”, Featuring Blvk H3ro

Rocky Dawuni, Ghana’s two-time GRAMMYnominated musician and actvist returns with the brand-new video for Neva Bow Down” — his first new single since his nod for “Best Global Album” for Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1 at the 64th Annual GRAMMY Awards earlier this year. On “Neva Bow Down” Rocky teams up with rising Jamaican star Blvk H3ro to release the global roots anthem. The powerful new single distills elements of pop, dub, and reggae for a modern take on “rebel music.

Neva Bow Down” premiers online on Friday, October 7th, 2022 and on terrestrial TV in Ghana. According to the Rocky, “the video is a picturesque narrative of the rising voice of the youth trying to understand and articulate their need for systemic change and inclusion. It is a thoughtful and beautifully shot visual feast of a hypothetical confrontation of an awakened people and the broken systems that seek to impede them.”

Directed by Slingshot, the rising young Ghanaian director and cinematographer who has already partnered up with Rocky on his “Wickedest Sound” video (Beats of Zion) and on “Beautiful People” video (Voice of Bunbon, Vol. 1) Slingshot describes the “Neva Bown Down” video as “a visual depiction of the fatigue in the very fabric of the tolerance level of the masses who are tired of the elitism and are on a quest to break loose of their mind control.” The video was shot on the streets of Accra while Blvk H3ro was filmed at the beautiful Hen House Studios in Venice, CA.

The collaborative spirit of “Neva Bow Down” reconnects Africa and the Afro-Descendant Diaspora, drawing on Jamaica’s powerful culture of resistance. Together, Rocky and Blvk H3ro weave a tapestry of melodies with an unforgettable chorus, laid on top of producer Bob Riddim’s speaker-busting production. This protest anthem is a meditation on the current, dire state of global affairs and our collective power to change the course of history, serving as an inspiration for people to stand up for what is right and true.

Rocky Dawuni’s signature Afro Roots style is a musical genre that reflects modern Africa. It is built upon the foundation of using cultural styles and integrating current innovations to create music that is inspiring, soul stirring, danceable and groovy. It is based on African Highlife music, afrobeat and global sounds. The song also has heavy Reggae touches. “I like to talk about Reggae music not outside of Ghanaian music or African music because I believe more that Reggae music needs to be transformed through African Music and African rhythms. As we know historically most Jamaicans originated from what is now called Ghana. We share a common ancestry. The opportunity to innovate the sound and make it more African is part of what the Ghanaian scene needs to be.”

Rocky Dawuni straddles the boundaries between Africa, the Caribbean and the Americas to create his appealing Afro Roots sound which fuses elements of Reggae, Afrobeat, Highlife and Soul that unites generations and cultures. Dawuni’s charisma and galvanizing performances have endeared him to crowds around the globe where he has shared the stage alongside luminaries including Stevie Wonder and John Legend, among many others as a dedicated activist, Rocky has been a leading voice for social and environmental transformation and currently serves as UN Goodwill Ambassador for the Environment for Africa. Rocky believes “that music is the medium to strike a chord that transforms our collective intentions into a vehicle for positive social change.”

Blvk H3ro (pronounced Black Hero) is one of Jamaica’s most exciting and original young artists, but he’s far from new to the scene. Over the past half-decade, he’s built an impeccable track record and fervent following with his uplifting and ambitious modern reggae sound, while collaborating with the likes of Bunny Wailer, UB40, Equiknoxx and Skillibeng. Jamaica’s Prime Minister, Andrew Holness, has even sung his praises, commending his song “It Nuh Easy” for its positive influence on Jamaican youth during a recent speech to the nation.

Ijekimora Teams With South Africa’s Busiswa For Hot New Single “Fire”

Nigerian Afrobeats Artiste, Ijekimora, shares her latest single “Fire” with her Ghana fanbase. She featured South African Music Icon, Busiswa, on it. An official video was shot for it too along with the official release of the song.

Stream “Fire” featuring Busiswa here on Digital Stores:

About Creating The Song “Fire”

“We came up with the title ‘Fire’ because of the way Busiswa came wild and unapologetic on the beat and it was so steamy we had to name it ‘Fire’, and the chorus had that melody in it too; the song already defined itself and you get to feel the energy and power behind it when you’re listening to it.” – Ijekimora

“The concept of the song is just 2 girls taking over, literally, empowering ourselves as 2 fierce women in the music industry living the best of our lives and making money as well,” Ijekimora added. The song is Amapiano inspired.

Why Busiswa for a feature?

Ijekimora was looking forward to breaking into the South African market, thus, needed an artiste she could work with; coincidentally Busiswa came through as the one. Busiswa had a show in Lagos and Ijekimora’s Team connected with her; and everything took off from there. “It wasn’t stressful at all getting her to jump on my song”, she says.

Ijekimora is still experimenting sounds to put together her debut EP she announced as “Kimorality”. She promises her fans to expect the EP to be out some time in 2023 though there were delays. She is a perfectionist and makes sure she gets her things right hence the little delay but off the cuff she has alreay released fire singles “Sexy Papa”, “Temptation” and a previous sensation “Stand By Me” featuring Seyi Vibez.

Ijekimora, grew up in Dallas but hails from Nigeria. She often shuffles between Nigeria and Ghana; she says Ghana is like a second home to her so she frequents Ghana grounds to do her promotions each time she drops a new song.

Busiswa Gqulu, known mononymously as Busiswa or Busi, is a South African singer-songwriter and poet. Born in Mthatha, Eastern Cape, South Africa, she gained public recognition for her feature on DJ Zinhle’s song, “My Name Is”, after being discovered by Kalawa Jazmee’s CEO Oskido. She is a vibrant artiste known across Africa and beyond and has rocked many stages locally and internationally.

Ghanaian Artistes Are Talented But Nigerians Artiste Invest Largely In Their Craft” – Joseph Matthew Laments

Award-winning Ghanaian afro-gospel singer and songwriter, Joseph Matthew has ranted on the issue of Nigerians being ahead of Ghanaians in the music front.

According to Joseph Matthew, it is not as if Nigerian musicians produce better sounds than Ghanaians do but they, Nigerians are a bit ahead because they have some serious investors who invest in their artistes and that their population is ten times larger than Ghana’s.

“Ghana is like a state in Nigeria. We have less than 40 million population as compared to Nigerians who have a whooping a little over 300 million population. It means we are even doing well competing with numbers like that.  In order to get to the top, we do not need just good content. Ghanaians are even more talented than the Nigerians,” he told Okyerefour on Hot 93.9FM

The ‘Nyame Ye’ crooner disclosed that Nigerians always have an upper hand than Ghanaians because of the kind of support the whole populace shows their artistes, and also how  their music promotion methods are structured is above par.

“Ghanaian artistes are always crying about money but Nigerians wouldn’t mind breaking the bank just to market their music. They really support themselves unlike Ghanaians” he added.

Joseph Matthew whose current song ‘Blessed’ is regarded as the best Urban gospel song currently, not just in Ghana but in Africa, said making money as an artiste in recent times is strategic and as such, Ghanaian musicians must be ready to invest heavily in marketing their craft. That, according to the UK-based Ghanaian afro-gospel singer is the only way they could make returns.

Chief One Introduces New Artiste, DD Don, From His Stable With New Song And Video “Big Gyal”

Chief One doesn’t want to enjoy the glory alone. He introduces DD Don, prolific Dancehall Singjay from his stable – Lawada Republiq.

DD Don who collaborated with Chief One on a viral song “Novayi” about a year ago is about to fully take on his own journey too.

Titled “Big Gyal”, the song comes across as an uptempo Dancehall jam with a taste of early 2000s flair with his style and delivery. You definitely need some very good speakers to get the boom sound produced by Hairlergbe who worked on the record.

DD Don is one of the young Dancehall artistes honing his craft to hit mainstream, from the Volta Region of Ghana, same place Chief One had his buzz from and got mainstream attention. The song is out on Digital Stores.

Gabiro Mtu Necessary Makes Cut For 65th Grammy Awards Consideration List

The 65th Grammy Awards is set to unveil its nominations list this November and Kisumu-based musician, Gabiro Mtu Necessary is the first Kenyan musician to receive consideration for the same.

Gabiro’s debut album; Saint John and another single dubbed Pok Alando have both been added to the voting list categories of Best Global Music Album and Best Global Music Performance respectively.

This comes days after he hit the 2 million streams mark with his album across all digital streaming platforms with Boomplay leading with the highest number of streams at 520,000 streams at the time.

Stream Album Here:

Last year, Mtu Necessary had his 3 track EP, JENESIS recognized by the Recording Academy in the annual Behind the Records project and later got considered for a Grammy nomination as the Best Global Music album alongside two other Kenyan musicians; Octopizzo and Victoria Kimani.

He recently got admitted to the Recording Academy as a member with voting rights.

All these came up at a time when the self-proclaimed Kisumu President had given up on music and had gone ahead to open a barbershop and venture into poultry farming.

He is a clear indication that strength and growth come only through continuous effort and struggle and this is more evident with the fact that he is a native of Kisumu city where he dwells and creates his music with very little at his disposal.

In another post on his Facebook page, Gabiro wrote; “Is it not appropriate to now say I am the first rapper to take Luo rap to the Grammys? We are bringing this to Kisumu one day, it’s close and I can feel it…”

With the Grammys being the world’s most prestigious award, it is not an effortless feat to have a musician’s work featured on their platform and for this, we give up to musicians like Gabiro who keep applying pressure to the necessary points.
