Ekow Blankson, a veteran actor and GhanaWeb’s Commercial Manager, has died. The news of his death was first announced on Facebook by Accra-based Hitz FM, and was later confirmed by a number of industry figures as well as colleagues at Ghanaweb. The cause of his death is unknown. Ekow Blankson held various leadership positions with four multinational corporations, including Ghana Breweries Limited, a Heineken subsidiary; Coca-Cola; Vodafone; and WaterHealth International. He has also held positions as Managing Director, Director of Brands and Corporate Communications, and General Manager (Luv FM and Nhyira FM) with media companies such as TV Africa, Media General Ghana Limited, and Multimedia Broadcasting Company. He was also the conglomerate Groupe Ideal’s Director of Strategy and Corporate Communications. Mmrantiehene Yeboah Afari, a veteran media personality with Kumasi-based Sompa FM, has died. According to reliable sources, the radio host died on Saturday, September 17, 2022, at the Manhyia Government Hospital in Kumasi, shortly after being rushed there for treatment. Mmrantiehene, also known as ‘Man 88,’ joined newly-established Sompa FM after leaving Fox FM, where he worked for nearly nine years. He previously worked for OTEC FM and New Mercury.
Prince Yawson, a seasoned actor, has passed away. He reportedly passed away this morning at the 37 Military Hospital following a battle with illness. 52 years old was Mr. Yawson. Veteran performer Bob Smith Jr. (Diaboloman), who was inconsolable, verified the awful event. The actor, better known by his stage name “Waakye,” has appeared in a number of important Ghanaian films. The actor verified rumors about his illness in October 2020 but stated that God had cured him. This came after claims that he had experienced a small stroke in the past. Waakye was consecrated as a Reverend Minister in April 2021, and it appeared that he had recovered and discovered his calling. After he formally retired from acting in the film industry, he attended a Bible school in Accra to prepare for his new religious job. Naa Ayorkor, a mid-morning radio show host with Takoradi-based Empire FM, an EIB Network subsidiary, has died. Although details concerning her death are scarce at the time, some Western Region media celebrities have resorted to social media to grievethe loss of a colleague, with others already paying glowing tributes. Naa Ayorkor previously worked for Sky FM in Sunyani and Paragon FM, where she was the chief of programming.
Psalm Adjeteyfio, a veteran Ghanaian actor, has reportedly died. Kofi Asare Brako, a sports broadcaster, broke the news of his death. Psalm Adjeteyfio died at his home in Ayikuma, according to the broadcaster, after being diagnosed with end – stage heart failure a few weeks earlier.
